May 8: Vámonos a la Fiesta Mexicana

Get ready to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the 5th Annual Fiesta Mexicana at D-E!

The Fiesta will take place on Thursday, May 8 at D-E's Wharton-Lessin Dining Hall, Klein Campus Center. This is an opportunity for the greater D-E community to enjoy an evening of food and music in celebration of the Mexican heritage holiday. This annual tradition also raises funds for teacher training and educational outreach initiatives in rural Oaxaca through the New Jersey nonprofit ELA (Educadores Latinoamericanos), and an update on D-E's educational mission will be given during the event.

Tickets are $20 for general admission and $10 for students, but additional donations are welcome at the door; cash and checks will be accepted.

The fun starts with appetizers at 6 p.m. and the lively performances begin at 7 p.m. Guests will enjoy a mariachi band, readings and spoken word acts in Spanish, and dance numbers. Performers include D-E students as well as the ELA-associated friends & family of Middle/Upper School Language faculty member Romualdo Bautista and now-retired (but still quite active!) Lower School Spanish teacher Janet Glass.
