Welcome New D-E Faculty & Staff!


Welcome to the following new members of our Dwight-Englewood School faculty and staff!

Tim Coyne holds a BA in Family and Child Studies with a concentration in Early and Middle Childhood Education, as well as a MA in English with a concentration in American Literature from Montclair State University.  Tim most recently worked as an Assistant First Grade teacher and Assistant Kindergarten teacher, here at the D-E Lower School.  Tim’s new role will be as a Kindergarten teacher. 
 
Mary Cushman holds a BA in English with a concentration in Theater from Swarthmore College and an MS in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Bank Street College of Education in New York City.  She most recently was a long-term substitute teacher for seventh grade English for D-E Middle School, and a substitute teacher here in the Lower School. Mary will be our new Lower School Assistant Teacher for our PreK – 3 Year Old classroom. 

Rachel DiGiovanni comes to D-E from the Grant School in Dumont, NJ where she worked as a third grade teacher.  She holds her certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing, Elementary Education P-3/Students with Disabilities and MA in Teaching. Rachel will be a Lower School Assistant Teacher. 

Rosita Fernandez-Rojo comes to D-E as the new College Guidance Office Dean.  She comes from the Rye Country Day School in Rye, NY where she worked as the Director of College Counseling.  She holds her BA from Hampshire College in Amherst, MA with a concentration in Psychology and Political Theory; and her Master’s of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

Christopher Fleischl
holds his BS in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics from Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ.  He graduated in the Class of 2014 from Montclair State, where he was a Student Research Assistant in the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Computer Science.  Chris is our Help Desk Administrator in the Taub Technology Center.

Our new Choral Director Ken Kacmar comes to D-E from the Kew-Forest School in Forest Hills, NY, where he was the Director of Music and Drama.  He holds his BA in Liberal Studies from Cleveland State University and his MA in Composition from Hunter College in New York City.

Kimberly ("Kim") Lewis is our new Lower School Principal.  Most recently she was Head of lLower School at Germantown Friends School (GFS), an independent school in Philadelphia. Kim has her BS in Psychology from Howard University; a MA from Bank Street College of Education and a M Ed in Educational Leadership from Columbia University Teacher's College.  Kim anticipates completion of a Global Executive Doctoral Program from the University of Southern California. 

Julie Luchs holds her BA in Education/K-8 Education Certification as well as her MA in Teaching/Special Education Certification from Tufts University in Medford, MA.  She most recently worked as a junior high school teacher at Ben Porat Yosef Yeshiva Day School in Paramus, NJ. Julie will be our Middle School Learning Specialist.

Courtney Marro joins our Middle School Science Department.  She comes to D-E from Indian Mills Memorial School, where she worked as a sixth grade science teacher and STEM curriculum developer; she was also a community garden grant recipient.  Courtney earned her BS in Biology and Psychology with a minor in Secondary Education from Loyola University Maryland, and holds a New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing: Teacher of Biological Sciences.

Michael McCarthy has his BA in Physical Education from the University of North Carolina and his MA in Health Education from Adelphi University, NY.  He comes to D-E to join the Health and Physical Education Department as an Upper School Physical Education teacher.   Most recently, Michael worked as a physical education teacher in Health and Enrichment at Western Suffolk BOCES, Long Island, NY.

New Registrar Mimoza Necaj comes to D-E with fourteen years of experience in this line of work.  She was most recently the registrar at the JCC Thurnauer School of Music, and has her BS in Journalism and Political Economics Sciences from Tirana University in Tirana, Albania; she has also attended various business courses here in the US.

A new member of our Upper School English Department, Dana Stangel-Plowe is a published poet with experience teaching undergraduates and children.  She has taught for the last 5 years at the Children's Shakespeare Theatre.  She has her AB in English from Cornell University, her JD from George Washington University Law School, and her MFA in English/Creative Writing from New York University.

Julie Pugkhem
will be our Lower School Assistant Teacher for the PreK 4 year old class.  Julie has her BS in Anthropology and Human Biology with a minor in French from Emory University in Atlanta, GA and her MS in Early Childhood General Education from Bank Street College of Education in New York City.  She comes to us from the Horace Mann School in New York City, where she was a science teacher in the Nursery Division.

Nasser Samedy is our new Middle School Admissions Director.  After attending Queens College, Nasser decided to pursue his music dream.  He lived in Osaka, Japan for two years and used that as the springboard for 20 years of work in the music industry.  His experiences included multiple world tours, live appearances at the Grammy Awards, World Music Awards and American Music Awards, and multiple Amnesty International concerts. In order to be home and available to his New Jersey-based family, he transitioned to management at Staples for 15 years doing interviewing, mentoring and training for new hires, facilitating orientation classes for new managers and working with Human Resources to develop new strategies for training employees.

Caitlyn Sellar
 will be our Information Services Administrative Assistant.  Most recently Caitlyn attended American University in Washington, D.C. from which she graduated with a BA in Anthropology and History, with honors in History.  During her time at AU, she worked as a Library Monitor. 

Dr.  William Stegmayer, our new Dean of the Class of 2017, most recently provided assistance in D-E's Middle School as a maternity leave replacement faculty member.  Bill earned his BS from the University of Charleston, WV; his MA in Teaching from Antioch University in Ohio; and Ed.D. in Social Studies Education from Rutgers University, NJ.  Before coming to D-E, he worked administratively in the Tenafly school district for 43 years.
 
Helen Stott '06 acquired her BA in Linguistics with a minor in Biology from Swarthmore College and studied Arabic in Syria at the Arabic Language Institute at Damascus University.  She comes to D-E from a strong research background, and has been published twice.

Christina Thiam
will be joining our Upper School Mathematics Department.  She comes to us from Columbia Secondary School for Math, Science, and Engineering in New York City.  She has her BS in Mathematics & Physics from University Babes-Bolyai in Romania, and her MA in Mathematics Education from the Columbia University Teachers’ College.

Jaclyn Wood comes to D-E from substitute teaching in elementary, middle, and high school levels in a variety of subjects, to be a Middle School Health and Physical Education teacher.  She has her BS in Physical Education and Health from Elon University in Elon, NC.

Hailing Zhao most recently taught Chinese to K-5 students at Heights Elementary School in Sharon, MA.  She attained her BA in English Teaching from the University of International Studies in Sichuan, China and her MS in English as a Second Language from the University of Scranton in Scranton, PA.  Hailing will be our Upper School Chinese Teacher.
