Fall Sports Teams Start Strong!

It's a great time to be a BULLDOG!  Our athletics teams have had an exciting start to the Fall 2016 season!  D-E Athletic Director C. Christian (Chris) Schmid provided the following highlights on our Varsity Football, Volleyball, and Girls Soccer teams. Be sure to visit www.d-e.org/athletics for the most current game schedules and athletics updates!

"Following a disappointing opening day road loss to arch-rival Horace Mann 13-20 on Sat. 9/17 the D-E Bulldogs Varsity Football Team rebounded to earn its first win this past Saturday at the Harvey School by a score of 42-8, evening the team's record at 1-1-0. Senior captains Mike Guerriero '17 (TD), Matt Kaufman '17 (2 TD's), Oliver Oz  '17 (huge reception when the score was close that set up a TD to help the Bulldogs pull away), and Will Schwartz '17 (2 TD passes) led the way along with juniors Dom Fermin '18 (2 TD's) and Lachlan Charles  '18 (TD). D-E has received outstanding line play in both games from seniors Chris Chang '17, Noah Cantor '17, and Chris Victor '17 along with junior Anthony George '18 and sophomore Hyatt Cohen '19. Newcomers Naseer Wilson '18 and Henry Suchite '19 have been pleasant surprises with their overall play. Twenty-nine young men in total are representing D-E on the gridiron this season!"

"The Girls Volleyball Team is off to it's best start in school history, with a 6-2 overall record, and is currently in a five-match win streak. With their only conference loss to Leonia, they are in great position to compete in counties and states for the first time in over ten years. Impact players for the Bulldogs are the dynamic duo, Freshman and Sophomore sisters Audrey '20 and Autumn '19 Leak who lead not only the team, but also Bergen County in the number of kills. Also leading the team is Senior Middle Blocker Annabelle Janssens '17 and Setters Jayna Waldman '19 and Allison Taylor '17."

"Having lost 10 players last year, D-E Girls’ Varsity Soccer team is rebuilding with great strides.  Abigail Goodman ‘20 joins the midfield with junior standouts Julietta Thron ‘18 and Isabella Patino ‘18.  Bolstering the offense are Yasmin Watt ’18 and Darya Bychkova ’17 and in the defense are Allison Platt ‘19 and Regan Contrucci ‘17.  Despite some great saves by keeper Mena Tausner ‘20, the Bulldogs lost to league rivals New Milford and Lyndhurst 2-1 (both in 'golden goal' overtime). Our current record is 3-2 and we are look forward to playing in the County Tournament starting this Wednesday!"
