Welcome to D-E Summer Connections!

Dear Families,

Welcome to D-E 360° Summer Connections (SC)!

As of Summer 2016, SC is now part of D-E 360°, a new division of Dwight-Englewood School.  (See right or go to http://de360.d-e.org/summer-connections/ for details.)

As the director of Summer Connections, I am thrilled to continue in the tradition of providing outstanding programming that Dwight-Englewood has to offer.  Students who enter our campus every summer encounter an enriching environment that stimulates intellectual growth, fuels creativity, ignites imagination, and fosters a path to discovery.  What better way to spend the summer than at Summer Connections!

The mission of the Dwight-Englewood Summer Connections program is to engage learners in the joy of discovery through a variety of experiences. These include:
  • Enrichment in academics & explorations in the arts
  • Adventures in sports & healthy living
  • Leadership development & connections to the global world
  • Innovative approaches to teaching and learning
  • Integrated technology in classroom instruction
With the award-winning Hajjar STEM Center, coupled with world-class faculty and innovative approaches to curriculum design, the academic challenges of the Enrichment Program for middle school and the Scholars program for high school students will provide leading-edge opportunities for academic advancement.  The early childhood Discoveries and elementary school Adventurers programs give our youngest campers an imaginative and joyous experience through thematic exploration of literature, sports, science, nature and getting to know the world around them.  Deep Dive Immersives provide experiential learning with students having close collaboration with master level faculty.  Deep Dive Immersives generally range from one week to two weeks in length. The students’ immersion in the topic of study is long enough to provide a depth of knowledge and skills building in the targeted areas.
There is something for everyone.  We offer a rich breadth of courses designed to meet the needs of students on a multitude of levels. Whether you’re exploring new topics, developing new skills, or wanting the challenge of advancing to a higher level, Dwight-Englewood Summer Connections strives to deliver outstanding opportunities for engagement in a safe and nurturing environment on our beautiful 45-acre campus.
We invite you to join our community this summer and look forward to seeing you on campus.

Michele Wright
Director of Summer Connections
Dwight-Englewood School

Meet Michele Wright, Director:
We are excited to have Michele as our new director for Summer Connections.  Michele has had extensive leadership experience with program development.  Most recently, Michele worked as the director of music programs and new initiatives at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Arts Education Department.  As an educator and administrator, the position gave her opportunities to work with children and faculty in grades pre-k through twelve throughout the State.  Michele holds a bachelor’s degree from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College and a master’s degree from The Julliard School.  Michele has greatly expanded on her education by also taking education-related courses and certificate programs at local universities, including Columbia University.
In her time here at D-E since August 2015, Michele has already been instrumental in designing the 2015-2016 AfterCare and Enrichment schedule for the Lower School.  This year’s offerings included a range of topics from Shakespeare, robotics, cooking, and yoga to chess, basketball, and Mandarin.  In the fall, she also worked collaboratively with faculty and staff from the Summer Connections program to build this dynamic catalog of offerings for Summer 2016.  Recently she stated, “I am impressed by the openness to new ideas and ways of approaching new opportunities are embraced. The level of organization and desire for high quality learning experiences for children is also very clear from my conversations and interactions with administrators and faculty at D-E.”
