Gov. Corzine Visits Lower School

Second grade students in the Lower School were thrilled to welcome New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine to their classroom yesterday, for a once-in-a-lifetime lesson in social studies. The special visit was all thanks to the initiative and pure spunk shown by student Marcus Seeger. He invited Governor Corzine to Dwight-Englewood School when meeting him earlier this year with his parents, Chris and Joni Seeger (pictured below at the Lower School entrance with the Governor).

During his visit, Governor Corzine shared his personal commitment to educating children and preparing for future generations. This was the first of his many education visits this year to an independent school. Through their questions, the students learned of the Governor's personal, unique path to state leadership. He recalled how he was inspired to get involved in helping others through the messages of past leaders such as President Kennedy and MLK Jr. Governor Corzine drew some gasps when he answered a question about how many papers he reads each day -- the answer was six, a combination of national, regional and local publications, so he can stay informed of issues.

At the end of his visit Marcus presented Governor Corzine with a pen and pencil set gift from the school. The Governor delighted the students and adults in attendance as well, when said he'd keep it on his desk for potential future use when signing bills.
