Shutov '10 Named NJ Tennis Player of the Year
Upper School student Dan Shutov '10 was recognized today as North Jersey's Tennis Player of the Year. The junior recently won his second straight Bergen County small schools championship, reaching the fourth round of the State tournament.
Tennis Coach Joe Iwanski notes: "Being honored this way is great recognition for Dan. Even when he was a younger player he showed strong leadership, encouraging the entire Varsity team to stay focused and helping out with ideas for improving each player's game."
Described by Iwanski and others as a natural talent, Shutov has played tennis only for a few short years compared to his competitors, having originally gravitated toward basketball. His ability is immediately evident when considering his 19-2 season this year, losing only to players seeded above him. He led the Bulldogs to the North Non-Public B championship and had a straight-set victory in the school's loss to eventual State champion Newark Academy.
