The D-E Middle School Division tradition known as the "Living Wax Museum" took place on campus recently, bringing myriad characters from history and contemporary culture to life. Figures as diverse and colorful as Genghis Kahn, Mahatma Gandhi; Walt Disney; Vogue magazine editor Anna Wintour; Frank Lloyd Wright; and childrens book author and illustrator Roald Dahl were all selected by Middle School students, who assumed the identity of the characters for the day.
Living Wax Museum is an annual hands-on academic exercise bringing history, politics, the performing arts and other disciplines all together, as the students are responsible for speaking as their chosen character, chronicling their life in a timeline, and understanding what made them unique. The event included a parade to the Lower School Division, and a special 'exhibit' in the school's Silberfein Gym, where parents, fellow students and faculty were able to speak with the characters. The photo album here provides a small sampling of the variety of personalities on 'display'.
