On April 28th, a Dwight-Englewood club, H.O.P.E (Helping Out People Everywhere), hosted its third annual fashion show benefit. This year, all proceeds went to the Hospital Sacre Coeur in Milot, Haiti. Hospital Sacre Coeur is the sister hospital to Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ. The club unanimously voted to help this specific charity and has been working hard since February to raise awareness of the effects of the 2011 Haitian earthquake.

To raise awareness around the school, the club posted facts about the effects of the Haitian Earthquake and also served Haitian food in the cafeteria to help spread the word about the annual fashion show. Presidents Laurie Temiz and Gillian Garcia, along with faculty advisor Eileen Feikans, led the club in creating a very successful fashion show.

The fashion show itself contained many elements to make the night worthwhile, from great clothing, dancing, and guest speaker Dr. David Butler; a liaison with Hospital Sacre Coeur, the club raised over $1,300. Clothes were modeled by our very own Dwight-Englewood students, and these clothes were donated from Bloomingdales, Society of Men, and Medici. As for the dance element, a group of dancers from Beyond Dance at Bergen PAC performed a Caribbean style dance in spirit of the Haitian theme.

Overall, the fashion show’s success this year has amazingly exceeded others in the past!  The club hopes to hosts another fashion show next spring and raise money and awareness for yet another worthy cause.
