Instruments Drive Underway, Winter Arts Fest Sun, Dec. 16

Done with your drums? Bored with your bass?  Tired of your tuba?!  In conjunction with the 2012 Upper School Winter Arts Festival this Sunday, Dec. 16, (see below) everyone is encouraged to donate their gently used musical instruments or musical instrument accessories to D-E's annual Instruments Drive. Now in its second year and led by Sara Ragi '14, the Instruments Drive benefits Renaissance E.M.S.,

Renaissance E.M.S. is a non-profit, community based program in Bronx, NY for at-risk students ages 5-18, providing services including music/vocal lessons to its students. Last year, the D-E community generously donated keyboards, saxophones, violins, violas, flutes, guitars, amplifiers, music sands, drums, and drumsticks.   All of the donated instruments were refurbished and were in the hands of appreciative students and their teachers within a few weeks.

Ragi works at Renaissance E.M.S. on Saturdays, providing volunteer tutoring and violin lessons.  She remarked, "I saw first-hand the importance of having sufficient instruments for all of its students. As the population of the Renaissance E.M.S. program grows, the needs increase as well.  These instruments donations are so important, and so valued by the children in the program."

If you cannot attend the Winter Arts Festival this Sunday, but still wish to participate, please drop off your donation(s) this week and next  week (through Wed.,  Dec. 19)  in Mr. John Littlefield’s office, located in the 1st Floor of Klein Campus Center.  Lower School families can drop off their instrument donations in the front lobby by Mrs. Rullo's desk.  Middle School families can bring donations to the Umpleby Hall lobby.

And don't forget:  Join us for a memorable, artistic afternoon this Sunday, Dec. 16, featuring performances by all of the Upper School instrumental and vocal ensembles and showcasing students' visual arts creations.  The Upper School Winter Arts Festival is from 2-4 p.m. in Schenck Auditorium and the adjoining hallways and lobbies of Klein Campus Center. The Festival is followed by a holiday reception sponsored by the Parents' Association "Friends of the Arts" (FOTA)" committee.  For additional details see www.d-e.org/arts
