As previously reported in March, the inaugural year for D-E's Ethics Bowl Club brought the team to the National High School Ethics Bowl after qualifying in the sixth Annual High School Ethics Bowl at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken last December. The national contest, held at the Parr Center for Ethics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in April, was also an inaugural event, where 16 teams from 10 states and Washington, D.C. competed. While the team of juniors Joshua Davis, Phoebe Mattana, Jamie Spingeld and Matthew Wang didn't place, according to D-E's Ethics Department Chair and club advisor Joseph Murphy, "The experience was invaluable to us. We all enjoyed it in spite of our final ranking. We learned a lot about the event, the teams and ourselves."

He continues, "For my students, this was an introduction into the wider world of ethics and philosophy. The event and the people who directed it and those who participated in it have given us a deeper perspective on philosophical thinking and caring about people, ideas and dialogue."

Mr. Murphy and the club look forward to competing in next year's regional Ethics Bowl and aspire to qualify again for the National event.
