Time to Talk Tech!  All in our D-E community are invited and encouraged to attend two upcoming presentations on the timely topic of technology, presented by D-E 125 Events.

Enjoy this intriguing panel discussion with D-E alumni entrepreneurs and technology professionals as they share their industry insights, resource advice, and more.   D-E 125 presents "Tech Talk" on Tuesday, February 6, at 7:00 pm in Hajjar Auditorium.  The event is part of the D-E "First Thursday" events series being offered this year in recognition of the School's 125th birthday.

"Tech Talk" will be moderated by Ken Landau '82, President & Co-Founder, mobileAGE LLC, an iOS publisher with + 8 million downloads. 

The discussion will also feature the following panelists (for more details on each of our panelists please see below):
  • Royce "Caitlin" Abrams '06 (Retail Brand Manager, Warby Parker);
  • Jeremy Cohen '09 (Software Engineer, Facebook);
  • Jennifer Collins '03 (Founder, PinkClouds.com);

Have you Tweeted today?  Made friends on Facebook?  Learn how to navigate the constantly-evolving social media landscape, with help from D-E Director of Technology Trevor Shaw.   Trevor will speak to the challenges our children face growing up in an online culture,  and will present tips for helping children to navigate their online lives.   A can't-miss event for parents and guardians of our "wired" children!

Trevor Shaw has served as the Director of Technology at the Dwight-Englewood School since 2001. He has been involved in education and technology for twenty years as a consultant, speaker, author, and classroom teacher.  He holds a BA in English and Secondary Education from Long Island University, and an MA in Instructional Media and Technology from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Moderator:  Ken Landau '82:  Ken Landau has more than 20 years experience in sales, licensing, product strategy, general management, marketing and customer service.   Products that Ken has brought to market include: Pocket Quicken, Zagat Restaurant Guide, Wine Enthusiast Guide, HP Financial Calculator, and exclusive content for Activision, Penguin Publishing, Time, Inc. and others.  He is currently the President and Co-Founder of mobileAge, LLC. an iOS publisher with more than 8 million downloads. Apps include the award winning Shanghai Mahjong (rated as the best game of 2009 by iLounge), BlackJack 21, Wine Enthusiast Guide, Leonard Maltin Movie Guide, Obsessed with Hollywood and Gluey.

Prior to mobileAge, Ken was the President and founder of LandWare, Inc., which established one of the first commercial development and publishing firms in the PDA/handheld market and generated $100 million total revenue from titles and bundles and received multiple awards for Palm OS products including Pocket Quicken, the best selling finance program. Ken also has held leadership positions with CorNet, LLC, serving clients including FedEx, Bristol Myers Squibb, Merck and Glaxo Smith Kline; and Apple., Inc.  

Ken has his BA from Colgate University and was an English/Economics Dual Major;  while at Colgate he founded MacGate, a Macintosh newsletter and the nationa's first independent collegiate Mac user group.

Royce "Caitlin" Abrams '06
Royce Caitlin Abrams serves as a Retail Brand Manager at Warby Parker. Caitlin graduated from Wharton in 2010 with concentrations in Marketing and Entrepreneurship, interning at Warby Parker during her senior year. She hopped aboard full-time the day she graduated, beginning as a Marketing Associate and pitching in across departments as the company grew (in the grand tradition of scrappy start-ups!). Caitlin now manages brand strategy across all Warby Parker locations. 

Jeremy Cohen '09
Jeremy R. Cohen is a software engineer at Facebook doing web development for public content and newsfeed. After graduating from D-E, Jeremy went on to study at Cornell University, majoring in computer science. While at Cornell, he did computer programming for various companies and organizations, including microcontroller programming for the Fab@Home 3D printer, Java web server development at Goldman Sachs, and database configuration within the data infrastructure division of Facebook. Outside of computer programming, he was a teaching assistant for computer science classes.  Jeremy graduated from Cornell's College of Engineering with Magna Cum Laude honors in May 2013.

Jennifer Collins '03
Jennifer Collins is the CEO and Creative Director of the New York City-based PinkClouds for Grey Days / PINKCLOUDS.com (www.pinkclouds.com), a fashion & designer vintage e-commerce site. PINKCLOUDS.com offers a multifunctional platform for the modern vintage and fashion consumer, including e-commerce, style advising, a blog, and curated sales of both vintage and current season products. The product offering reflects a sophisticated mix of vintage and modern designs, including ready-to-wear, jewelry, handbags, and accessories.  The site grew out of Jennifer's love for vintage shopping and a fascination for the growing world of online fashion. Her goal was to build a beautiful, easy to navigate site that sells an edited collection of vintage garments.  PinkClouds.com has received significant positive press including reviews in WWD:  New York Times; Lucky; The Wall Street Journal; Elle; Harper's Bazaar; and more. 

Nikita Dyer '05
Nikita Dyer is currently a Senior Product Manager at Knewton, an Education Technology company based in New York, New York.  Prior to Knewton, she worked with Education First on their language learning platform, in both their London and Shanghai offices.  Most recently, Nikita was the Product Manager of Photofeed, a cross platform cloud storage solution.   After graduating from D-E in 2005, Nikita studied at Cornell University and also the London School of Economics.

Charlie Jacobson '12
Charlie Jacobson is the founder and CEO of FireStop, the first cloud-based software platform that enables firefighters to leverage important data in order to better protect lives and property. Charlie built the first prototype of FireStop's iPad app for his senior Focus project at Dwight-Englewood. With teammates he recruited at Princeton, Charlie continued to pursue his ideas in the University's eLab accelerator for startups. FireStop has been in private beta since September 2013 with several leading fire departments in New Jersey and will be launching publicly this February. He is currently pursuing a major in Computer Science and minors in Robotics and Finance at Princeton University.

Prior to FireStop, Charlie developed iPhone and iPad apps for music companies, schools and advertising firms. He is an active member of the Princeton and Englewood Cliffs Volunteer Fire Departments. He can be reached at charlie@firestopapp.com.
