Dr. Wendy Chung on "Genetics" Thursday, Jan. 8

Join us for a fascinating presentation by Dr. Wendy Chung, a molecular geneticist, on the topic of "Genetics:  You & Your Identity" this Thursday, January 8, 2015, at 8:10 AM in Schenc Auditorium.  Dr.Chung's presentation is being brought to D-E by the "Road to Well-Being" Speaker Series, which already this year has featued speakers including Dr. Mehmet Oz and life balance coach Renée Trudeau to the D-E campus.   
 
Dr. Chung directs the clinical genetics program at Columbia University and performs human genetic research.  She is responsible for managing NIH funded research programs in human genetics of obesity, breast cancer, pulmonary hypertension, and birth defects including congenital diaphragmatic hernia and congenital heart disease.  She also leads the Simons VIP study characterizing genetic forms of autism and tests novel treatments for autism in clinical trials.  
 
Dr. Chung was the original plaintiff in the Supreme Court case that overturned the ability to patent genes and is a member of the National Advisory Council for Human Genome Research and the Genomics & Society Working Group.  She received her B.A. in biochemistry and economics from Cornell University, her M.D. from Cornell University Medical College, and her Ph.D. from The Rockefeller University in genetics.
 
Dr. Chung is also the parent of D-E students Rudy LeDuc ('20) and Johnny LeDuc ('27).
