Englewood Idol Features D-E Student Performers

D-E student performers will join other talented peers from local area high schools, when they grace the stage of bergenPAC this Friday, January 16 at 7:00 pm in the 10th annual Englewood Idol competition.

Englewood Idol (EI) is a fundraiser for the Dr. John Grieco Scholarship Fund.  Students once again hope to raise $5,000 through this event, which is expected to top the attendance record of more than 1,300 people at last year’s show.
This year’s event will feature nine contestants including vocalists Jack Brosnan '15 and Seon Layne '16.  In addition, the show will feature dancers Casey Danoff, Jack Forman, Lyly Mitchell, Wendy Gonzalez, Laura Rendon, and Jahod Silver, competing in “Englewood’s Best Dance Crew,” a competition among teams of dancers from Englewood’s high schools. D-E English teacher and Dance Club advisor Vicky Frankel lends her choreographic talents to this competition, along with Spanish teacher and Latin dance instructor Saadia Gil, of Dwight Morrow High School and the Academies@Englewood.  Additionally Dave Lysenko '15 will serve as the event's co-host.

The judging panel will feature Florian Bellanger, acclaimed pastry chef and judge of the TV show Cupcake Wars, as well as a host of other local celebrities.

EI Auditions were open to any high school student living in, or attending school in, Englewood or Englewood Cliffs. More than 40 students auditioned.

EI Producer (and D-E Alumna) Judy Aronson '78 says she is thrilled to see how the students have embraced this year’s 10th anniversary show.  “Students are really getting a sense of being part of something special. Some of them have been attending Englewood Idol since they were in elementary school, and they remember the show from years back,” she adds. “This year’s performers really respect the tradition of our show and show it in their pride and commitment.”

Tickets can be purchased in advance now through Friday afternoon directly from Ms. Frankel, Jack Brosnan, or Seon Layne, for $10 (students) and $14 (adults).  At the door, tickets are $14 (students) and $18 (adults).  Official EI 2015 T-shirts are also available for sale;  contact Ms. Frankel if interested by Email at: frankv@d-e.org.
