D-E Performing Arts presents "The Addams Family", March 3-5, 2016!
The weird, crazy, yet wonderful Addams Family are back in a new musical. Audience members may be familiar with the work of authors Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice from their contribution to
Jersey Boys, as well as the music and lyrics of Andrew Lippa, writer of
Big Fish and
The Wild Party. The iconic characters created in cartoons by Charles Addams in the 1940’s for the NEW YORKER magazine, have been reinvented for each generation since. The family came to television in the 1960’s and then to the big screen in multiple incarnations in the 1990’s and just recently they have come to the musical theatre genre in 2010. This musical,
The Addams Family, takes the iconic characters into a new direction. Little Wednesday Addams – “that charming, irrepressible bundle of malice who would poison her own brother just for a ride in the ambulance” – has grown up and fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a nice, “normal” boy from Ohio and has agreed to marry him, but she still hasn’t told the family, or her mother! She confides in her father, and makes him promise not to tell her mother until after the two families have met at dinner. Gomez Addams is torn between keeping a promise to his daughter and keeping a secret from his wife, Morticia, which is the one thing he had vowed he would never do.
Both families will meet for the very first time at the Addams Family home in Central Park on a dark and stormy night. As to be expected, the “one normal night,” hoped for by Wednesday and Lucas, breaks into an evening of mayhem, and the loving couple may be torn apart, along with both sets of parents.
Come join Gomez and Morticia, Wednesday and Pugsley, Lurch, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Thing and Cousin It, for an evening of monstrous fun and a rollicking good time at the Addams Family Home… da da da dum…click click… da da da dum… click click ….da da da dum da da da dum da da da dum...
