Welcome New Faculty & Staff!

Dwight-Englewood is excited to introduce the new faculty and staff joining the School for the new 2016-2017 academic year. Welcome aboard!
 
Wendy Blasius received her MA in History from the University of Iowa in History and her JD from University of Miami School of Law.  She is pursuing her passion as a teacher after having practiced law for more than six years at various law firms. Ms. Blasius has taught history to both middle and upper school students in several different schools including Ransom Everglades School and Greens Farm Academy. Ms. Blasius has also played and coached athletics at the high school and college levels, and she will be joining D-E Athletics as a coach for the Girls' Junior Varsity Soccer Team. 
 
Amanda Bernard joins Dwight-Englewood as the new Administrative Assistant for Athletics. After graduating from Seton Hall University with her BA, Ms. Bernard worked as a Family Room Specialist for Apple, Inc., and as a Game Operations Facilitator/Premium Events Assistant for the Brooklyn Nets, among others. She also has played within and coached for several basketball camps.
 
John Bryk will be joining the D-E Mathematics Department. He has a PhD in Mathematics from Rutgers University and his BA in Mathematics and Economics from Williams College. Most recently Dr. Bryk was an Assistant Professor at John Jay College, the City University of New York, teaching courses in traditional calculus sequence, finite mathematics, and college algebra, serving on departmental and college-wide committees, and coordinating research in computational algebraic number theory.
 
Erica Butler has her BA in Music (with a concentration in Piano Studies) from George Washington University.  She will be joining D-E as a Lower School Recess Coach. Ms. Butler’s prior experience includes working for the Bergen Performing Arts Center (PAC), teaching children music and leading the camp showcase final presentation, and serving as a liaison for the Bergen PAC at their Garden State Plaza location. Ms. Butler is also a D-E alumna (Class of 2011).
 
Pearl Penina Bukiet will be joining D-E as Lower School Psychologist. She received both her PysD. and MS in School Psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology of Yeshiva University (Bronx, NY). Most recently Dr. Bukiet was with the College Board (Services for Students with Disabilities) and prior to that she was School Psychologist for Yeshivah of Flatbush, Lower Division.
 
Michael (“Mike”) Burns is the new D-E Director of Operations, having most recently worked for Gilbane Building Company as General Superintendent for construction of the School’s Hajjar STEM Center, which opened in 2015. He previously managed all aspects of construction related to the Hackensack Medical Center’s $35 million E.R. expansion, Lehman College’s new science building, Urban Health Care’s new medical building in Bronx, NY, and White Plains Hospital’s new operating rooms, among others.
 
Kimberly Conover joins D-E as Athletic Trainer.  Ms. Conover received her BS in Athletic Training from William Paterson University with a minor in Health Studies. Her prior experience includes athletics training for students at Paramus Catholic High School and Ridgefield Park HS, assisting with emergency medical response for numerous high school tournaments and sports festivals, and volunteering as part of the Medical Team for Special Olympics New Jersey.
 
Vanessa Gomes joins D-E as a Lower School Recess Coach. Ms. Gomes received her BS in Science (Exercise Science, Clinical Concentration) from University of Maryland Eastern Shore, with a focus on courses in kinesiology, exercise physiology, personal health and fitness, and sports medicine and first aid.
 
Ashley (Chaya) Gray, D-E’s new Lower School Learning Specialist, received her MS in Science in Education/Teaching Literacy from Bank Street College of Education (NY, NY). Most recently she was Learning Specialist at Yeshiva Ketana of Manhattan and she also has worked as a Literacy Specialist / Independent SETSS provider for NYC Department of Education.
 
Eden Heller is the new Administrative Assistant for D-E’s College Counseling Office (CCO). She received her BA from Haverford College, where she also was a Senior Interviewer for the Admissions Office. Her prior experience Student Teacher at Colegio Maristas San Fernando (Seville, Spain) while participating in Sweet Briar College’s Junior Year in Spain program at Universidad de Sevilla.
 
DaYoung Jung joins D-E as the new Design & Writing Associate with the D-E Communications Department. Ms. Jung received her BFA in Illustration/Cartooning from School of Visual Arts (New York, NY).  Her prior experience includes working as Graphic Designer/Jewelry Designer for OORI Trading, serving as Junior Graphic Designer/Production artist for Eye Level Learning, and Game Artist for FANTAGE.com.
 
Hillary Lauder joins the Science Department faculty at D-E.  She received her MEd in Middle Level Education at Pacific Lutheran University and she earned both her BA in Environmental Studies and BS in Chemistry from Evergreen State College.  Most recently Ms. Lauder served at Shekou International School (China) as a teacher of Middle School Math/Science, IB Chemistry and IB Biology.
 
Jeremy Meserole is the new Dean for the Class of 2020 (Grade 9) at D-E.  He received his MEd in Education Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University and he also received his MA in English from Stony Brook University and BA in English from Princeton University. His prior experience includes serving most recently at Morristown-Beard School (MBS) as Director of Social Justice, Equity and Diversity and Grade Dean, and as Head of Hegeman Hall at The Stony Brook School. Mr. Meserole also has extensive experience as Varsity Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach in Soccer (MBS and Stony Brook respectively) and Varsity Tennis (Stony Brook).
 
Brett Moreland, an alumnus of Dwight-Englewood, (Class of 1988) joins the Science Department. Mr. Moreland has a BA in Biology from Drew University and is pursuing his MA in Educational Technology from New Jersey City University.  Most recently he was on the faculty at Don Bosco Preparatory High School, where his responsibilities included teaching Biology and working with juniors and seniors in their honors independent science research.
 
Aleksandra Sadova-Burak joins the Mathematics Department at D-E. She graduated from Samara State Aerospace University in Samara, Russia with both a BS and MS in Aeronautical Engineering.  Her prior experience includes teaching mathematics and engineering at Newark, NJ-based Technology High School and as a Math Specialist  with the Newark Innovation Academy.
 
Nikki Sims joins the D-E Science Department. She received her MS in Secondary Education at Saint Joseph’s University, and her BS in Biology from University of Scranton (PA). Most recently Ms. Sims was both a 7th Grade Science Teacher and the Technology Camp Director at Friends’ Central School in Wynnewood, PA. Her prior experience also includes working as a Lego Robotics Teacher for the Agnes Irwin School (Rosemont, PA).
 
Laura Weinstein joins the History Department at D-E. Dr. Weinstein received her PhD from University of Wisconsin, and she also received her MA from Queen’s University Belfast (Ireland) and BA from Northwestern University. Her prior experience includes teaching History and Humanities for 10th through 12th Grades at Wooster School (Danbury, CT), and serving as an instructor for the Newberry Library in Chicago, where she created courses with collections centered on the history and culture of Western Europe and the Americas.
