List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • Are campus visits and attendance at Open Houses required?

We strongly encourage students to visit and/or attend an Open House with their families. Although it is not required, students who visit are given a first-hand opportunity to see our classes, teachers, students, and campus. Open Houses provide families with time to experience Dwight-Englewood School together. On the day of your admissions interview, you will also go on a tour of the campus led by a student tour guide.
  • Does Dwight-Englewood School require an interview as part of the application process?

Yes. Each applicant to the Middle and Upper Schools is required to have an individual interview.  Once you submit the application and $75.00 application fee, please call the Admissions Office at 201-227-3102 to schedule your student and parent interviews.
  • What does D-E look for in a prospective student?

We are looking for kind and community-minded students of demonstrated motivation and ability who will contribute to D-E beyond just the classroom. Like many independent private schools, D-E looks for students whose academic records show potential for success in our rigorous program. In addition, we look for students who have a passion for learning and/or perhaps have demonstrated leadership skills or a commitment to helping others. Essays, teacher recommendations and co-curricular activites give us a better picture of the whole student. There is no exact science to the admissions process, therefore we seek to admit the most intellectually prepared, diverse, and talented students as possible.
  • Are sibling and legacy applicants given priority in the admission process?

We value our longstanding relationships with sibling and alumni families but do not offer Early Action as an option. We cannot guarantee admission to students based on a prior association with D-E; sibling and legacy candidates undergo the same Admissions Committee review as all other D-E applicants.
  • What is the tuition at Dwight-Englewood School? Is financial aid available?

Tuition varies by division.  Yes, need-based financial aid is available. In addition, there are payment plan options that have been quite helpful to our families as they manage the tuition costs. Please click here for more information about tuition and financial aid information. We ask that families seeking financial aid submit a financial aid application through SSS by January 15.
  • How are admissions decisions made?

Dwight-Englewood uses a comprehensive admissions process in which every application receives a full evaluation and all parts of the application are considered.
Located in Englewood, New Jersey, Dwight-Englewood is a greater New York City area private school with a rigorous college prep curriculum for boys and girls in preschool through grade 12.
