Students in 8th grade DIG class and the middle school garden club have been digging up Jerusalem artichokes and potatoes and making tasty snacks for themselves in Umpleby lobby. Chef Luke even prepared a composed salad for the middle school from these roasted sunchokes that we harvested in the D-E garden.
As part of their study of soil and sustainability, students also continue to test, observe and amend the planting beds. They are also experimenting with extending the growing season with the use of a cold frame which we anticipate putting into use starting in March. In the picture students collaborate to interpret assembly instructions written only in German and to practice assembling the cold frame we will use later this winter.
