Boys' Tennis Wins BC County Championship, 4th in 5 Years!

Currently ranked #1 in Bergen County and #4 in the state, D-E Boys' Varsity Tennis last weekend won its 3rd consecutive Bergen County Championship, and 4th in the last 5 years.
Coach Joe Iwanski shared later, "This year was a little different from the previous titles, in that the team played the event without its top player, junior Daniel Nuzhny '18, who had to withdraw in order to play in a hugely important USTA tournament with national ranking implications. The net effect of his absence, however, was to inspire the rest of the team to focus on making sure that the championship trophy remained with the Bulldogs for another year."

The team swept all four of the lower flights in dominant fashion, without dropping a single set. This was the first time that the Bulldogs clinched the county title upon completion of the semifinal rounds, enabling everyone to play in their respective finals without the pressure of a team title hanging in the balance.

Earning individual titles were: junior Rick Sivarak '18 at 2nd singles, senior Nikhil Kokra '17 at 3rd singles, juniors Brandon Grill '18 and Shanay Amin '18 at 1st doubles, and sophomores Cameron Janssens '19 and Tejas Akula '19 at 2nd doubles.

Coach Iwanski added: "This was senior Nikhil Kokra's 3rd individual title in 4 years, and junior Brandon Grill's 3rd individual title in 3 years. For Shanay Amin it was his 2nd individual title, and for Rick Sivarak, Cameron Janssens, and Tejas Akula, it was their 1st individual title.

And now it is on to the state tournament, which will begin in just about two weeks.
