Student-Led Fundraisers: Fiesta Mexicana; Dance for the World; H.O.P.E. Clothing Drive
D-E Upper School students are involved in a variety of worthwhile fundraisers this month! Fiesta Mexicana (Thursday, May 10); a "Dance for the World" to benefit Unicef Fiji, and a spring clean-out clothing drive all are underway now, and open to participation by all three divisions of the School.
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with your family and friends at the annual Fiesta Mexicana, an event designed to support teacher training and educaitonal outreach initiatives in Oaxaca, Mexico. The Fiesta will be held on Thursday, May 10, beginning at 6:00 PM, in the Wharton Lessin Dining Hall in the ground floor of the Klein Campus Center. Enjoy performances by a traditional mariachi band, readings from D-E Spanish language students, and, of course, authentic Mexican cuisine. Tickets are $10 for students and $20 for adults at the door, and there will also be a raffle for special gift items representative of Mexican culture. Support Ben Zhu '19 in his "Dance for the World". Ben has created a GoFundMe website: https://www.gofundme.com/dance-for-the-world and has offered his exceptional (and very popular) dance talents to raise funds for Unicef Fiji. Ben explains: "I have teamed up with the UNICEF club at Dwight-Englewood School to start this GoFundMe in order to raise money for children in Fiji. For each $1,000 raised, I will release a dance tutorial video on Youtube teaching waving, popping, tutting, basic footwork, and more. Hopefully, we can all come together and help the Fijian children. Following-up from the over-arching theme of their fashion show fundraiser earlier this spring, D-E's H.O.P.E.*Club is holding a "Spring Clean Out Clohting Drive" now through Friday, May 11. Bring any new or gently worn clothing, shoes, or accessories in Newborn - adult sizes to the bins located in Klein Campus Center. All donations will be to Bergen Family Center, and cash or check donations will also be accepted. Questions (and contacts for monetary donations) can be directed to Maya Simon at simonm@d-e.org or Phoebe Snyder '19 at snydep@d-e.org.
