D-E Welcomes New Faculty & Staff

Dwight-Englewood welcomes the following faculty and staff members who have joined the School for the new 2018-2019 academic year. 

 

Formerly the Dean of D-E’s Class of 2014, Mike Bell is now returning to D-E as an Upper School English teacher. Mike has his Master of Education degree from Harvard University and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from NYU. Most recently Mike has been an educational consultant and learning specialist, and his last role was serving as Academic Dean and an English Teacher for Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki, Wiscasset, Maine.
 
D-E’s new Events Coordinator, Linda Binder, most recently worked as an Event Planner for Party Productions Unlimited. She also has served as a Substitute Teacher and Administrative Assistant for Millburn School District and Newark Academy. Linda holds her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from NYU.
 
Brandi Cannon is joining D-E as a Middle School Science teacher. Currently a Conservation Biology Master’s Candidate at Columbia University, Brandi received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Sam Houston State University. Most recently she was a 7th Grade Science Associate Teacher at Success Academy Charter School and her prior experience also includes working for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection as a Natural Lands Management Assistant.
 
A new Upper School Math teacher, Brian Carvalho most recently was a Math Teacher for Avenues: The World School. Brian has his Master of Arts degree in Mathematics from Boston College and both a Bachelor of Science degree and Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Massachusetts. His prior experience also includes working as a Manager for Kalba International, Inc., a boutique international information communications technology (ICT) sector management consulting firm.
 
Quin Charity comes to D-E from The Dalton School, where she worked as a Robotics faculty member, First Program Associate Science Teacher, and Middle School Science Fellow, 6th Grade Science. Quin has her Master of Professional Studies, Interactive Telecommunications Program degree from NYU; a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Photography degree from Otis College of Art and Design; and a Bachelor of Arts, Economics degree from University of Chicago. She is joining the Lower School as a STEM teacher.
 
Joining the Upper School as a Science teacher, Saira Atif Chowdhry has her Master of Arts degree in Teaching from Union Graduate College and her Bachelor of Science degree in Science is from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Most recently Saira was a Biology Teacher for Albany Academy for Girls and prior to that she was a Biology and Chemistry Teacher for The Packer Collegiate Institute.
 
Michael Crimmins is D-E’s new Information Services/Library Administrative Assistant. Michael has his Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising from Penn State University. Most recently he worked at the Help Desk for All Saint’s Day School and also as a Substitute Teacher in Midland Park.
 
Jonathan Davis is D-E’s new Middle School Principal. Prior to joining D-E he served as Middle School Head at Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg, FL. Jonathan has both his Master of Education in Teaching and Bachelor of Arts in History degrees from Washington University-St. Louis.

Paul Edwards is a new Upper School Visual Arts teacher. Most recently he has freelanced for The Childrens Place and Kahn Lucas and his prior experience includes working as an art director and senior graphic designer with Topsville Inc. NYC, Macy’s, and Garan Inc. Paul has his Bachelor of Arts degree in Illustration from Syracuse University.
 
A new Upper School Science teacher, Genelle Diaz-Silveira has her Master of Science degree in Biology from NYU and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies from Amherst College. Genelle comes to D-E from The Kew-Forest School, where she was Science Department Head and an Upper School Science Teacher.
 
Frédéric Fontaine is an Upper School Math and Computer Science teacher. He most recently taught 5th grade mathematics, pre-Algebra (7th grade), Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and AP Statistics at The Hudson School, and he also has worked as a private math tutor. Frédéric has earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University; his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech; and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Supelec-Gif (France).
 
Holly Goldberg joins D-E’s Lower School as 3rd Grade Lead Teacher. Holly most recently was a First and Second Grade Associate Teacher at Leman Manhattan Preparatory School. Holly has her Master of Science degree in Literacy, Birth-Grade 6, from City University of New York, Hunter College, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education is from Skidmore College.
 
A new Upper School Spanish teacher, Josie Jesser joins D-E from The Girls’ School of Austin, where she worked as a Spanish teacher. Her Master of Arts degree is in Latin American studies from University of Texas at Austin, and her Bachelor of Arts degree, similarly in Latin American studies, is from Dickinson College.
 
Cecil Jones, LMSW, is D-E’s new Lower School Visual Arts teacher. Cecil most recently was a Teaching Artist at The Studio Museum and prior to that he worked at Columbia Secondary School as a Middle School Fine Arts Activity Specialist. Cecil has his Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from City College of New York and is a licensed social worker.
 
Varun Khattar is an Upper School Seminar Teacher. Varun has his Bachelor’s of General Studies from University of Connecticut. Prior to joining D-E he was Research and Program Associate with the Center for Race & Equity in Education (Hartford, CT). Varun has also worked at the CT Center for a New Economy as a Community Organizer and also held the position of Bilingual Tutor at East Hartford High School.
 
Dawn Lozada is D-E’s new Director of Philanthropy. Dawn comes to D-E from Ramapo College Foundation where she was Director, Annual Fund, and prior to that she was Co-Director of the PIngry Fund at The Pingry School. She has a Master of Arts degree in International Service from Roehampton University (London, UK), and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology is from Boston University.
 
Meghan McGivney joins D-E as the Administrative Assistant to the College Counseling Office (CCO). She most recently worked as a Small Business Consultant for White Oak Home, and prior to that Meghan was Director of Academic Programs for Basis Independent Brooklyn. Meghan has her Bachelor of Science degree in Supply Chain Management is from Lehigh University.
 
D-E Lower School’s new 1st Grade Lead Teacher, Nadine Taylor, most recently served as a Fourth Grade Lead Teacher for Citizens of the World Charter School and prior to that she was a First Grade Lead Teacher at Success Academy Charter Schools. Nadine has her International Master of Business Administration degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and her Bachelor of Arts degree in English is from Illinois State University.
 
David Alexander Wallin joins D-E as a new Lower School / Middle School Learning Specialist. David most recently was Head English Teacher at Churchill School and Center and he also has worked as a tutor. David has his Master of Arts degree in Teaching of English from Columbia University Teachers College and his Bachelor of Arts degree in English is from University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.
 
Prior to joining D-E’s faculty, Peter Waltman spent 25 years as a financial advisor. His experience includes managing funds, investing in publicly-traded equities, venture capital, and private equity. He has also developed low income housing. Now an Upper School History teacher, Peter has his Master of Business Administration degree from Fordham College and his Bachelor of Arts in Economics degree is from Vassar College.
