Second Grade
Music
Instructor: Mary Heveran
Students come to music twice a week for 30 minutes each time. Students are introduced to concepts and skills such as tempo, dynamics, and musical form.
Students learn to sing songs with two verses, and read notation including quarter note and eighth note. Students continue to learn about the music and biographies of composers including Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms and Tchaikovsky. Students prepare for a spring concert in which they will perform songs of different cultures as well as songs relating to the theme of the concert that particular year. In preparation for our annual trip to hear the NJ Symphony Orchestra, students learn to identify instruments within each of the four families of instruments.
