Health and Wellness

Instructor: Kim Franco

The Health and Wellness class meets twice a week in the Lower School gym. Students are exposed to a wide variety of activities to help develop an overall understanding of fitness and basic skills.

They engage basic movement and motor skills to improve overall fitness, hand-eye and foot-eye coordination and body/spatial awareness. The FitnessGram program teaches students to evaluate and track personal fitness levels, and they participate in Jump Rope for Heart in the spring. Manipulative skills are utilized in many of the sports introduced and practiced. Students will compare sports and games created by the Native Americans to popular sports. They will also learn the sports created in the U.S.A. Lacrosse, basketball, speedball, Whiffle Ball, Frisbee games and volleyball are some of the team sports taught. Students will begin to apply strategies in games and learn to be supportive teammates.  When possible, and frequently in the spring, students have physical education on the school’s Leggett Field.
