Spanish
Instructor: Ericka Collado
In third, fourth and fifth grades, students meet three to four times a week in a FLES (Foreign Language Elementary School) setting with Doctora Collado.
FLES programs help students develop an openness, understanding and appreciation for other cultures. Students develop and master functional skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish. The goal of a FLES program is to develop proficiency in oral and written communication in Spanish through the integration of language skills and concepts taught.
During the 4th grade school year, students engage in conversational and presentational tasks that allow them to recombine learned vocabulary and create meaningful messages. There is increased emphasis on conversational techniques, such as asking and answering questions. Fourth grade students also learn about food and nutrition, leisure activities and nature.
