D-E's Robotics Team Wins Two Awards

Last weekend, D-E's robotics team, Team 0207/Critical Mass, had one of its most successful tournaments in its history! The team is reaching to new heights, and Critical Mass brought home the Inspire Award, which is the most sought-after and prestigious award in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC). The award is presented to that team who "truly embodied the ‘challenge’ of the FTC program." The award mentions that the recipient "performed well in all Judging categories and was chosen by the Judges as a model FIRST Tech Challenge Team."

Since being founded in 2006, Critical Mass has only become more influential both in-school and at competitions. With an original crew of three people, the team now has dozens of members and consistently wins awards. The team is often recognized for its computer-aided design (CAD).  Most recently the team was featured in PTC Creo and they secured a grant and a 3D printer - the efforts of which were recognized by winning the Connect Award at the Northern New Jersey Robotics Championship earlier this month.

Faculty advisor Dr. Marco Pagnotta and student team leader Spencer Papay '15 together commented,  "Our [continued success] is the culmination of our team's collective efforts. The judges recognized our team's cohesion, and it was the combination of our 3D models, innovative robot, well-documented process, and the team’s enthusiasm that made Critical Mass stand out. The team is excited to be one of 40 participating in the New York State Championship [after having qualified at a competition held at Manhattan’s Dalton School] this coming weekend!"

Good luck Team 0207/Critical Mass!
