"All in the Timing" David Ives Plays Nov. 11-12
D-E Performing Arts proudly presents "All in the Timing" -- an eclectic collection of five of David Ives’ short one-act plays.
In these comedies, Ives' creative turn of a phrase, musical tempos, and whimsical humor give each play its own flavor and feel. The plays range from the esoteric, avant-garde homage to the music of Philip Glass in "Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread"... to the humorous evaluation of the infinite monkey theorem by three chimps put to the task of proving it in "Words, Words, Words."
In "Sure Thing", two strangers meet in a coffee shop and must restart all of the moments that don’t work as they try to find the perfect fit. "The Philadelphia" suggests that even if your body is in New York, your state of being may be in a “Philadelphia,” a place where the laws of physics and common sense just don’t apply. The "Universal Language" brings a shy young girl who stutters together with a con man looking to dupe people out of their money by teaching a made-up language called Unamunda. Something happens to the two of them as they find the healing magic of a “Universal Language.”
Performances will take place on Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12, in Hajjar Auditorium at 7:30 PM. All seating is general admission and tickets are $15 each. Tickets can be purchased in advance with the "All in the Timing" Ticket Order Form (PDF) click here to download and return with payment as indicated. Beginning Monday, October 31 tickets will be sold in the School Store in Klein Campus Center, and also at the door 30 minutes prior to showtimes.
Representing an exciting collaboration of Dwight-Englewood student and faculty directors together, "All in the Timing" is a playful exploration and must-see for all D-E families. particularly those in the Middle and Upper School divisions.
A reception hosted by the D-E Parents' Association (PA) Friends of the Arts will take place following the opening night performance.
