In just a span of two weeks, the D-E community at large was able to raise funds for two causes: the Center for Food Action and the Nepal earthquake relief.

On a sunny spring Sunday morning, April 19, the "D-E Fights Hunger" Snack Pack Drive took place from 10:00 AM to noon, followed by the outdoor Spring Carnival 2015.

The "Snack Packers" spent two hours in Modell's Sports Complex assembling more than 1,200 snack packs for the Center for Food Action during the "D-E Fights Hunger" community service event, which also involved a collection of non-perishable food items as well as monetary donations.

"Matt Waltman '16 applied for a Youth Service America grant for this project, and we got it, " said Director of Student Activities Maya Gunaseharan '08, who added, "...With [the $400] grant and the donations of the community, we raised over $3,500."

Then on May 1, in response to the April 25 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal, a bake sale was hosted by D-E's Middle School, CODES (Community Outreach of D-E School), and the parents of the South Asian Affinity Group. This lunchtime bake sale - whose goodies were contributed by a dozen D-E community members, including students and faculty members - managed to raise more than $1,000 for Nepal relief efforts.
