Model Congress Club Welcomes Congressman Zimmer

Congressman Dick Zimmer served as the 2013 Dwight-Englewood Model Congress Club Distinguished Lecturer on November 22, 2013. It was standing room-only as Congressman Zimmer engaged in discussion with students, faculty and staff in Hulst House. The lecture was planned by Model Congress Club President Edmund J. Janniger '14, who gave the introductory remarks, with the assistance of the Club's Host Committee. Congressman Zimmer was also welcomed to campus by Upper School Principal Joseph W. Algrant.
Congressman Dick Zimmer served as the 2013 Dwight-Englewood Model Congress Club Distinguished Lecturer on November 22, 2013. It was standing room-only as Congressman Zimmer engaged in discussion with students, faculty and staff in Hulst House. The lecture was planned by Model Congress Club President Edmund J. Congressman Zimmer has represented New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. As a member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, where he was a member of its Subcommittees on Trade and Oversight, Congressman Zimmer was a principal architect of bipartisan legislation cutting the capital gains tax. He is the author of the federal Megan’s Law and the "No Frills Prisons" legislation. He championed the passage of the Twenty-seventh Amendment to the United States Constitution. The National Taxpayers Union has ranked Congressman Zimmer as the most fiscally conservative member of the entire Congress three times. Additionally, Congressman Zimmer has been named "the leading Republican thinker on regulatory reform."

The Model Congress Club is the center for political debate and civic education at Dwight-Englewood. Members meet biweekly to debate contemporary political issues and learn about relevant legislative processes. Additionally, the Club provides opportunities for members to participate in leading government simulation programs at major universities.
