Dwight-Englewood is excited to present our new STEM building this fall, and while construction is well underway, we look forward to our next Green Garden Project (GGP) event.

"Mulch, Mint Lemonade & Mojitos" is now rescheduled to take place tomorrow, Friday, July 31, due to anticipated thunderstorms this afternoon.

From 4:30-7:30 PM, the GGP will gather to prep the new garden space above the Upper School Parking Lot, which is accessible from the North Woodland Street entrance.

Activities will include:
  • Laying out new paths in our brand new garden beds by the Upper School Parking Lot;
  • Spreading mulch; and
  • Enjoying light refreshments, including beverages flavored with fresh mint grown at D-E!
Construction continues to take place as we prepare to have a greenhouse and a large new garden. As they work on our new building, the current Umpleby garden is being used to help teach our Summer Connections students about soil study and even some cooking through the Organic Vegetable Garden Enrichment course, led by Tasha Urbanowski. Workers have been helping to construct outdoor teaching environments where students will be able to learn more about outdoor gardening. We plan to give our students the chance for an even more hands-on and problem solving-based programming that emphasizes environmental understandings.

Although it is great that Englewood boasts a very healthy woodchuck population, this does not help with our new garden plans. Therefore, D-E has built a fence that extends at least two feet below ground in order to keep them from eating students' experiments and constructions.

In the words of Tasha Urbanowski, Grade 6 Dean and co-founder/committee chair for the GGP: "It is extremely important to have such a great addition to our school as we will be able to offer an even better learning environment for our students. We hope you are all as excited - as we are - to explore the new additions to the Dwight-Englewood School!"

And do plan to join GGP tomorrow, Friday, July 31, from 4:30-7:30 PM!
