Summer Connections 2015 began today with our littlest campers in Summer Discoveries and Summer Adventures! Bonus Week kicked off with a Team Spirit Challenge event for the Adventures campers, who got to work with a duo of Team Makers to play games and complete challenges on Leggett Field. The ladies of Team Makers led the kids through exercises such as tarp flip and balancing oversized cubes in a bucket. Adventurers had to work together to finish each challenge given to them. If the challenge seemed too tough, the campers looked to counselors for guidance as they all made their way through the challenges.

Meanwhile, Discoveries campers spent the day getting to know each of their fellow Yellow, Red or Blue mates. At the end of the day, some Discoverers and their TAs built with blocks to make the biggest towers possible. Other Discoverers had a blast playing with the sandbox as they dug for treasure!

As mentioned by Summer Connections Director Shakeh Tashjian at www.d-e.org/Summer, now through July 31, the 3-5 year olds will explore children’s literature while our Adventurers will spend each week exploring the magic of literature, including mysteries, poetry, and fables.

The Enrichment and Scholars Programs join us starting next week through August 8. Enrichment offerings include favorite classes such as Digital Photography, Science Medley, and Basketball, along with new ones like Cookie Cafe, Good Works, Say 1000 Words, and Optical Illusions. Scholars can opt for classes in either the introductory and advancement levels for credit.

The mission of the Dwight-Englewood Summer Connections program is to engage learners in the joy of discovery through a variety of experiences. These include:
  • Enrichment in academics & explorations in the arts
  • Adventures in sports & healthy living
  • Leadership development & connections to the global world
  • Innovative approaches to teaching and learning
  • Integrated technology in classroom instruction
One focus is the wide variety of classes offered at different levels to meet the needs of students, from the youngest of campers to our older student scholars. Dwight-Englewood Summer Connections strives to offer a flexible environment that allows students to design their discovery based on individual needs and desires.

We invite you to join us this summer. Explore new connections with teachers and students, concepts and subjects, within the community, to technology, to the global world, to the knowledge acquired during the academic year, but mostly, to your individual passions. Enjoy reading through our course offerings either in the brochure or on the website and sign up for an unforgettable Summer Connections experience.
