Stories. Solutions. Secrets. Explanations. The desire to learn makes us human and forever young at heart. Nothing is more gratifying than giving children something that they want AND need. With Summer Connections, the time away from the academic year can be the best opportunity to reinvent learning and remember why expanding our minds is an experience everyone enjoys.
In the Lower School Programs, our youngest campers will take on the entire world. The 3 – 5 year olds will explore deserts, forests, jungles, and more. Our adventurers will spend each week in a different region or continent, starting with the Arctic and ending with Asia. In the Discoveries and Adventures Programs, learning comes alive.
The challenge for the Enrichment Program is narrowing down all the options to one class per session. Some are tried and true classics like Debate, Web Design, and Watercolors. Others are new favorites such as Stained Glass, Science Medley, and Cheftastic. Add the classes that are new to everyone like Zentangles, 3D Printing, and Beatles Guitar Camp, and the possibilities seem endless. The decision is not any easier for Upper School students who can bake, program, build, and more. Making this process nearly impossible is my greatest challenge.
For our scholars, nothing says responsible more than taking control of one’s own education. At both the introductory and advancement levels, students are motivated to create their own path to graduation.
The mission of the Dwight-Englewood Summer Connections program is to engage learners in the joy of discovery through a variety of experiences. These include:
- Enrichment in academics & explorations in the arts
- Adventures in sports & healthy living
- Leadership development & connections to the global world
- Innovative approaches to teaching and learning
- Integrated technology in classroom instruction
One focus is the wide variety of classes offered at different levels to meet the needs of students, from the youngest of campers to our older student scholars. We offer a rich breadth of courses whether you are looking for an introduction, a chance to hone skills, or a brand new discipline. Alternative learning is also emphasized by using technology or different settings such as the Nature Sanctuary or a different country. Dwight-Englewood Summer Connections strives to offer a flexible environment that allows students to design their discovery based on individual needs and desires.
We invite you to join us this summer. Explore new connections with teachers and students, concepts and subjects, within the community, to technology, to the global world, to the knowledge acquired during the academic year, but mostly, to your individual passions. Enjoy reading through our course offerings either in the brochure or on the website, www.d-e.org/Summer, and sign up for an unforgettable Summer Connections experience.
