Go Bulldogs! Fall Teams Start Strong

Our athletics teams have had a great start to the Fall 2014 season.  Here's the latest from our very enthusiastic AD,  Eli Goldberger:

"Earlier this week, D-E Girls' Varsity Soccer continued their unbeaten record (4-0) and did so in dramatic fashion!  They knocked off defending league champions and previously unbeaten New Milford 5-4 in double overtime!  New Milford was ranked 14th in North Jersey heading into the contest. Junior striker Taylor Krakower led the way with 4 goals, ncluding three in the first 25 minutes, to give the Lady Bulldogs the necessary cushion they would need to hold off a determined New Milford team.  At the half the lead was 3-2. New Milford tied the game up early in the second half and things looked grim before Krakower broke free and put the Lady Bulldogs back on top 4-3!! Keeper Jillian Field '16 made several miraculous saves to fend off the defending champions. New Milford kept the pressure on and eventually tied the game with under a minute to go in regulation. As the game went to overtime the tension mounted. Both teams battled to remain unbeaten. After a scoreless first overtime period, the game went into the final overtime, still undecided. However it didn't take long before fearless freshman Bella Patino broke free on the left side and made an incredible spin to the right.  Bella then blasted the game winner past the outstretched arm of the New Milford keeper!! Although it is still early in the season, the win certainly solidified our Lady Bulldogs as a contender for the NJIC Liberty division crown!"

"And how about the Field Hockey Team!  Last week  the Lady Bulldogs hammered Hackensack 6-0 in their home opener in a game where senior Captain Isabel Guerriero set a D-E School record scoring 5 goals in a single game!! Yesterday, Field Hockey knocked off River Dell in a re-match of last year's thrilling county tournament quarterfinal matchup, which we won in a penalty stroke shootout.  Yesterday's matchup was just as exciting with sophomore Emily D'Alessandro knocking in the game winner with under a minute to go, sealing the 2-1 victory for the Bulldogs! Gueriero scored the other D-E goal. Senior Stasia Kuske recorded 10 saves in goal. With this win, Coach Kim Franco celebrated her 100th victory.  Congratulations to Coach Franco and the entire Field Hockey squad on a huge win!"

"Let's not forget about our Girls Tennis Team:  The team breezed passed Harrison 5-0 earlier this week, and are currently ranked 5th in the county! Led by freshman Beata Liberchuk at 1st singles, senior Victoria Patrenko at 2nd, junior Olivia Yi at 3rd singles, along with senior Shereen Al-Sawwaf and junior Sofia Cox at 1st doubles, and senior Evangelina Leventis and sophomore Elizabeth Maline at 2nd doubles, this powerhouse team is gearing up to make a run at the Bergen County tournament as well as the State Title!  Today at 4:00 pm they face rival Leonia Lions, so join us at the D-E Graham Courts for some exciting tennis, and let's share and show off our Bulldog pride!"

"Our Cross Country team is hot on the trail as well!  The Boys and Girls swept their events earlier this week at Garret Mountain. Senior Ryan Semsel led the way for the boys with a time of 18:15 while fellow seniors Yu Omiya  David Lysenko , Clement Wong, and Spencer Papay along with sophomore Zane Diaz also ran solid races to clinch the victory for the Boys.  On the Girls' side, junior Tara Satnick ran her race in 21:20 finishing first overall while Julia Beckett '17, Nicki Mohammadi '15, Claudine Chartouni '16, Noa Levin '17 and Lily Arang '18 contributed to the victory!

"Kudos also go to our Bulldog Boys' Soccer team, which beat Lyndhurst yesterday afternoon, and are currently 4-1 in their season!  And last but not least, D-E Football opens this weekend at Harvey."

"Go Bulldogs! Congratulations on a great start to the season!"
