Summer Connections, the School's day camp program for students in Grades PreK (age 3) through 12, has just completed its third week. Based on the happy faces of all of our campers, numbering nearly
775 in total this year--a record according to Program Director Shakeh Tashjian--the program is providing great experiences, new learning opportunities, and fun memories!
Our
Discoveries and Adventures students in Grades PreK through Grade 4 are enjoying their weekly units focused on New York City, including its history, architecture, geography, and environment. Field trips to Big Apple landmarks are balanced with nature hikes through the Palisades Interstate Park; team scavenger hunts around the
beautiful 40+ acre D-E campus; water play; relaxing outdoor yoga sessions; hands-on scientific explorations in D-E's Lower School Exploratorium; and in-classroom model bridges, tunnels, and skyscrapers building. Daryl George, Adventures Program Director, tells us that one group has constructed a 20-foot long fuil-size crawling tunnel to rival those found under the Hudson!
Enrichment campers in the Middle (Grades 5-8) and Upper School (Grades 9-12) are gaining new skills in courses including Sports Broadcasting, Robotics, Videography, Drama, Debate, and more. Sports clinics continue to be huge hits for young tennis, soccer, and other athletes. Our
Summer Scholars, who desire an academically-credited experience, are doing so through their enrollment in Chemistry, Physics, SAT Prep, and other classes. While many of the Enrichment classes culminate in Friday performances for parents and students, we are also eagerly anticipating the arrival of talented string players for the annual
String Society program, taking place August 1-5.
And 'over the pond', nearly 30 Upper School level students are immersing themselves in the beautiful culture of Salamanca, through the
D-E in Spain program at the Universidad di Salamanca. Follow Program Director Joseph Murphy and the group at
