Summer Connections a Success!

Liz Tausner
Summer Connections, Dwight-Englewood School's popular day camp program, completed its 2011 session on Friday, August 5.  By all accounts the program was a huge success!  Nearly 800 students ranging in age from Preschool to Grade 12 participated in a variety of summer activities and courses taking place in classrooms and studios both here and abroad, on playing fields and courts, and during exciting field trips to a number of area museums and landmarks.

Shakeh Tashjian, Director of Summer Connections, commented, "Thank you to everyone who participated in the Summer Connections program!  We had a phenomenal 2011 program, with a record number of campers involved this year.  (T)he program's success is entirely connected to the faculty, staff, and families who made it possible to enjoy an educationally-enriching experience."

She continued, "Our youngest campers in the Discoveries and Adventures program were thrilled to have the opportunity to learn about the rich history, architecture, and geography of New York City while enjoying hands-on arts activities and science classes in our Exploratorium. Water play was also a daily delight, not to mention Field Day during the last week of camp!"

"For students in Middle and Upper level grades, our Enrichment and Scholars programs included Advancement Pre-Calculus,  Basketball, Cheftastic, Debate, Photography, Science Medley, Video Production, Yoga, and much much more.  These classes and clinics gave everyone on our campus this summer the opportunity to explore a new interest area, and in some cases even earn school credit.  Our D-E in Spain international program earlier this summer once again provided students with a wonderful overseas immersion language experience at the Universidad de Salamanca.  Finally the wonderful Grand Finale Concert by our talented String Society campers on the last day of the program was a fittingly memorable way to conclude this year's program."
